THE AIRSHOW ISN’T FLYING THIS YEAR, BUT STUDENTS ARE STILL SOARING

The annual California Capital Airshow (CCA) would normally be setting up this week. The small staff and army of volunteers would be preparing the airport for jets, pilots, crew and displays arriving from all across North America and excited fans entering the gates for a weekend of spine-tingling entertainment.

Sadly, this is not a normal year for anyone and we wanted to share an important secret. YOU are what we will miss most, the thousands of loyal fans who support the show each year and the 1,000+ volunteers dedicated to the Airshow’s mission.

Did you know? The Airshow is actually a fundraiser for year-round educational programs. One of the most important of these programs is the annual scholarship awards, serving high school seniors from across the six-county region who dream of accomplishing great things and simply need a little help. Thanks to YOUR support, we have proudly delivered $262,000 in awards to 156 remarkable future leaders to attend 36 different education institutions across 14 states.

“My love of airplanes began at a young age and is likely attributable to attendance at the California Capital Airshow where I first saw the B-29 fly,” said John Kroeger, recent CCA scholarship recipient. “An aerospace engineering degree will open up a world of possibilities for me. I plan to work on the next generation of machinery that will drive humanity into the future – designing safer, more advanced, and more efficient airplanes.”

Although we are all experiencing an unprecedented year, students still need our help in making their dreams come true — some of these include using artificial intelligence to end climate change, building filtration systems in third-world countries and so much more. Join CCA in raising $50,000 from September 28-October 4 to support other rising stars on their way to college to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, aviation and aerospace. The next round of scholarship applications launch in December 2020 and can be found at the Sacramento Regional Community Foundation website.

It’s simple to donate to this 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, click the button below and help support the next generation of innovators. No amount is too small and every dollar makes a difference, but individuals who donate $50 or more will receive one FREE general admission ticket (good for one adult & up to six youth) for the 2021 Airshow, featuring the United States Air Force Thunderbirds rocking the skies over Mather Airport on September 25-26.
