Here’s a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor course, also known as TOPGUN

Yes, we’re all looking forward to the release of Top Gun: Maverick this coming May. Back in the 1900s (80s & 90s), if you asked a military pilot about their most significant influence in becoming a fighter pilot the movie TOP GUN was often mentioned.

Let’s be honest; the movie was massive hit and a whole lot of fun! Yet, it was a far departure of what actually happens and the US Navy’s fighter weapons school.

In the words of one TOPGUN instructor, “there are only two things that are real in the movie TOP GUN, the fact that there are airplanes and the word Navy, almost everything else is a complete fabrication.”

That said, the 8-minute video above above takes a fascinating look into the real TOPGUN.

Ironically enough, if you look closely, you can also see what appears to be one of the three “Maverick” jets used for filming the Top Gun sequel. The Maverick jet can be seen around the 7:40 mark. It’s the aircraft with the black and blue tail flash and modex “00”.
