The Gas Station in the Sky…
US Air Force KC-135 Demonstration First-Time at Mather Airport
How do fighter jets stay in the air for prolonged periods? It’s in large part because of the KC-135 Stratotanker, which acts as a gas station in the sky, allowing jets to refuel midflight without the need to touch back down. Don’t miss seeing this one-of-a-kind demo this September 30-October 2!
Core Aerial Refueling Capability of the Air Force
The KC-135 Stratotanker provides the core aerial refueling capability for the United States Air Force and has excelled in this role for more than 60 years. This unique asset enhances the Air Force’s capability to accomplish its primary mission of global reach. It also provides aerial refueling support to Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and allied nation aircraft. The KC-135 is also capable of transporting litter and ambulatory patients using patient support pallets during aeromedical evacuations.
Coming from the 92nd Air Refueling Squadron at Fairchild Air Force Base
Based in Spokane, Washington, the KC-135 Stratotanker Demo Team will show the capabilities of this Global Air Mobility Command’s aircraft including lowering its boom, which is the primary fuel transfer method. Nearly all of its internal fuel can be pumped through the boom, that’s more than 200,000 pounds of fuel. One crewmember, known as the boom operator, is stationed in the rear of the plane and controls the boom during in-flight air refueling.
We’re just 35 DAYS away from the Airshow…who’s ready for some jets??
